My mission is to provide competent, ethical and mature surgical advice all the time, to patients in need. To provide procedures which are done as minimally invasively, or with as little surgical trauma as possible. Where this is not possible, to guide patients through the process, in a fully informed and shared decision making process.
Dr Ivor Funnell’s Qualifications
Dr Funnell obtained his MBBCh degree at Wits University in 1982. He obtained a distinction in General Surgery, and completed specializing in Cape Town in 1990. Sub-specialty training in surgical gastroenterology was he completed in 1992. He was involved in the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy course in the country and has been involved in laparoscopy ever since coming to private practice in Durban in 1994. He has had advanced flexible endoscopic training as well.
Dr Funnell has attended numerous advanced laparoscopic courses and has also acted as a facilitator in several of these. He has a very active interest in intervention endoscopic procedures such as ERCP and endoscopy.
The accreditation in bariatric surgery has been a more recent development in 2007 and has supplemented a long career in digestive system surgery.
